Descripción:

With support from the Holloway Family Fund, AFTD has partnered with the Alzheimer's Association to provide funding to researchers with promising, relevant research poised to advance our understanding of FTLD biomarkers. By supporting researchers, we and our partners hope to pave the path to more accurate and timely diagnosis for families affected by FTD.

Award Details

  • Duration: up to 2 years
  • Amount of award (USD): Budget requests between $250,000 - $700,000.
Amount is dependent on stage of development and scope of project.
  • Application of funds: All applications require a detailed budget and corresponding budget rationale included. Applicants from academic or non-profit institutions may request up to 10% of the approved budget be allocated to indirect costs.

Scope: Diagnostic Biomarkers
Eligible research proposals include, but are not limited to:

  • Identification of novel biomarkers (e.g., molecular, imaging) for FTLD in human biological samples such as blood, CSF, saliva, or tissues.

  • Evaluation or development of low-cost screening biomarkers to identify individuals in need of evaluation by a neurologist due to FTD.

  • Evaluation or development of a biomarker to aid in the differential diagnosis of FTLD, distinguishing between distinct forms of FTLD or comparing FTLD to other neurological causes.

  • Replication studies to validate the utility and reliability of identified human biomarkers.

  • Development of standardized assays or protocols to quantify biomarker levels.

Requisitos
  • Eligibility
The FTD Biomarkers Initiative awards are open to investigators worldwide at:

    • Academic or nonprofit research institutions

    • For-profit organizations such as biotechnology or diagnostics companies

    • Collaborative arrangements (e.g., between academia and industry, senior and early-career researchers, or ALS and FTD researchers) are encouraged.

    • When a collaboration involves a for-profit partner, it is preferable, but not required, for that entity to lead the project.

    • Postdoctoral researchers cannot apply as the lead PI but can be key personnel on a project team.
