Introduction:
The American Psychological Foundation (APF) offers the F.J. McGuigan Early Career Investigator Research Grant biennially to support promising early career psychological scientists.

General description:
This grant funds research addressing any aspect of mental function - including cognition, affect, and motivation - from both behavioral and neural perspectives. The program encourages projects that integrate behavioral and neuroscience approaches to advance a unified understanding of the human mind and brain. The grant supports both empirical and theoretical projects.
It is awarded every two years, and the next submission deadline is June 5, 2026.

Objectives:

  • Support early career researchers pursuing studies on mental function.

  • Foster integration of behavioral and neural perspectives in psychological science.

  • Promote innovative and rigorous research in cognition, affect, and motivation

Requisits

Eligibility / Criteria

  • Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (or be in a related field) and be no more than 10 years post-doctoral at the time of application.

  • Applicants must demonstrate commitment to the program's thematic focus.

  • Research must align with the goal of unifying behavioral and neural approaches to understanding the human mind.

  • The program is open to international applicants.

  • The host institution must support the project and provide necessary administrative oversight.

  • Proposals must include a detailed budget, justification, timeline, and abbreviated CV.
